If You Think You Might Have COVID-19
Symptoms of COVID-19 may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus, and testing is the most accurate when symptoms are present. Symptoms include:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
What should I do if I’m experiencing one of the symptoms of COVID-19?
Step 1: Take a COVID-19 test

- If you are unable to self-administer a rapid test, Mines students may also contact the Student Health Center to inquire about testing Monday-Friday during business hours. Testing capacity is limited and restricted to students experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
Step 2: Reach out to a medical provider to ensure you get the health care and attention you need
- If you are experiencing severe shortness of breath, weakness, chest pain, confusion or your lips are turning blue, please call 911 or seek care at your nearest Emergency Department immediately.ÌýÌý
- If you are sick and worried you need medical attention but are not experiencing life-threatening symptoms (see above), please call 303-273-3381 to speak with a Health Center staff member for further guidance. Ìý
- All Mines students also have access to Academic Live Care tele-health 24/7, 365 days a year. Instructions are available at .ÌýÌý
Step 3: If you test positive for COVID-19, please follow the guidance from the enters for Disease Control and Prevention
- In March 2024, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its for people with COVID-19. The guidance aligns with guidance for other respiratory viruses including flu and RSV.
- Stay home until your symptoms improve and you have been fever free (without medication) for 24 hours.
- When you go back to your normal activities take added precautions over the next five days such as hygiene, masks, physical distancing and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
Utilizing the Student Health Center
Accessing Care
The best way to access care is to call the SHC at 303-273-3381. Once you are connected, our team will triage and provide further guidance for your care. We have expanded our capability to provide telehealth. We will offer limited in-person visits at the SHC in an effort to minimize exposure.
Getting in Touch with Your Medical Provider

Getting a Referral
The SHC can provide referrals for medical specialists. You will need to have a telehealth or in-person visit with an SHC medical provider before a referral is approved. Please call 303-273-3381 to schedule an appointment.
Prescription Refills
Check your pharmacy first and see if you have refills remaining on your current prescription. If not, have your pharmacy contact your provider or you can request a prescription refill through your medical record portal. To send a secure message, go to Trailhead > Health Portal bubble > Messages > Compose New.
You can also call the SHC at 303-273-3381. Please allow 72 business hours for prescription refills.
Medical Appointments

The Student Health Center (SHC) is open 8:00 am to 4:45 pm Monday through Friday (closed noon to 1:00 pm for lunch) and will continue to provide care for all eligible students. We also provide telehealth services to students residing in the state of Colorado. Should you have urgent medical concerns or questions regarding COVID 19 we are requesting students call 303-273-3381 during business hours.
Types of Medical Appointments
The SHC offers telehealth and in-person medical visits, prioritizing urgent/acute care visits versus primary care and routine appointments. Your concern/complaint will be triaged and a telehealth or in-person appointment scheduled as appropriate.
